This
Exhibition ‘AFRICAN ICONS’
will reveal to the public for the first time some
great sculptures whose provenance is from a private collection of an illustrious
pioneer in cooperation with the black continent: we are not talking
of objects already exhibited and present in the African art’s circuit, but of
wonderful and authentic unknown testimonials of important cultures.
Among
the exhibits will be an impressive piece of
considerable size of Dogon rider, and some rare
large masks Adoné from the Kurumba tribe of
These
wonderful pieces were discovered from AFRICAN HERITAGE curators, Gustavo and
Gabriella, in the collection of one of the most important actors in agricultural
cooperation in
In
the early 60’s the pieces, that were already old, were donated by the
populations to the collector to thank his efforts in helping them to manage
better the territory and the water resources, and since then, they were in his
roman house.
The
Private View of this exhibition
will take place on 5th December
2009 at 7.30 p.m. and will be inaugurated by the RAI
journalist Isabella Mezza, who will introduce contributions by the Right
Honourable Jean Leonard Touadi, member of Parliament
and extraordinary connoisseur and promoter of African art and culture and by the
writer and expert Giovanni Maria Incorpora,
an academic of African arts and traditions and author of the book “African
Sculptures” published by Polaris.
