Corneille died at the age of 88

In the Musical Instruments Museum (MIM) in Brussels, opens Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 an exhibition that pays tribute to the recently deceased artist Corneille. The exhibition runs until January 9, 2011 next year.

The Dutch artist Corneille, co-founder of the Cobra movement, died on Sept. 5 at age 88. The painter's work has often focused on music and also was inspired by African Art shapes. In the Mim Museum you can see some of his paintings around his favorite operas, composers and instruments, works baptized "Homage to Verdi" or "Hommage to Mozart" .

Also in 1986 he painted a grand piano in his distinctive, colorful style. The piano is for an indefinite time at the MIM, where she is surrounded by other works of the artist and some of the museum's African collection pieces.

Even if Corneille had an African Art collection (that was sold last year at auction) he did not focus on authenticity and was more interested in the aesthetic solutions the African Art could bring to his paintings.

 Access to the exhibition is included in the price of the museum (5 euros for adults).
