Jubileum Exhibition
Last weekend was the opening of the Jubilee exhibition in the Berg
en Dal Museum
Tientallen VVE leden hebben voor de jubileumtentoonstelling objecten uit hun
verzameling aangedragen. Om uit dit grote aanbod een expositie en een catalogus
samen te stellen, werd een selectiecommissie ingesteld. Deze commissie
beoordeelde de objecten niet alleen op authenticiteit, maar ook op esthetische
kwaliteit, zeldzaamheid en inpasbaarheid in de tentoonstelling. Ook werd
gekeken of voorwerpen al eerder geëxposeerd en gepubliceerd waren. In dat
geval ging de voorkeur uit naar onbekende objecten. Zo werd een
selectie verkregen van goede objecten die normaal niet te zien zijn en
die niet eerder werden beschreven.
De commissie bestond uit Marc Felix (handelaar, verzamelaar en publicist
uit Brussel), Dirk Smid (conservator Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde Leiden), John
Tenneij (VVE en handelaar uit Den Bosch), Lucien van de Velde (handelaar uit
Antwerpen) en Arnold Wentholt (VVE, taxateur, handelaar en publicist uit
Leiden).
Catalogus
Na de definitieve selectie werden de objecten gefotografeerd door Ben Grishaver.
De objecten worden full color in de catalogus afgedrukt en zijn door Arnold
Wentholt van een beschrijving voorzien. Alle objectbeschrijvingen worden
tweetalig uitgegeven, Engels en Nederlands.
Daarnaast dragen vier auteurs essays aan waarin de wereld van de etnografica
vanuit verschillende invalshoeken wordt belicht. De auteurs zijn Raymond Corbey
(filosoof en antropoloog, hoogleraar archeologie Leiden), Frans Ellenbroek (bioloog,
publicist en directeur Natuurmuseum Tilburg), Siebe Rossel (antropoloog,
historicus, publicist en tentoonstellingsmaker Hengelo) en Arnold Wentholt
(kunsthistoricus, publicist, taxateur en handelaar Leiden). De catalogus
wordt geheel tweetalig uitgegeven, Engels en Nederlands.
