A
major piece in Oceanic art will be undoubtedly an early Marquesas club, Ex Alain
de Monbrison, Paris, now property of a german private collection. It is
characterized by its dynamically interplay of concave and convex planes, of high
and low reliefs and finely incised sections.

The Africa section is focussing on western and central regions, representing
strong figures and masks especially from the Congo. Among them a female ancestor
figure of the Luba Shankadi, Ex Constant Permeke (1886-1952, flemish painter),
then Patric Claes (Brussels);

All three figures are particularly remarkable for its clear forms and
exceptional, elaborate aesthetic.
Another opportunity for collectors is a rare Pindi figure, Ex Pace Gallery New
York (Inventory No. 53-1596), but already acquired in the 1930s by Ferdinand
Verbeeck (Belgium). The Pindi were the first occupants of the lands between the
Kwilu and the Kwenge rivers and had their own cults and rituals based on
sculpture before the people - among whom they live today - incorporated the
Pindi culture.

Highlight of the Dogon group will be a granery shutter, Ex Pace Gallery New York
(Inventory No. 53-0739), well documented and widely exposed from 2005 through
2007 in several U.S. museums.

excellently preserved stirrup vessel of the Chavin culture (Peru), Ex Neil J.
Becker, West Harrison (NY, USA) .

Also of note in section 'Asia' is the panel from Timor with delicate incised
carvings. Collected in situ in 1960 it is now consigned fresh-to-market by its
dutch owner.
